Sun Lakes Republican Club Minutes
When: Wednesday September 13, 2023 6:30-8:30 PM
Where: SLCC#1 AZ Room
Who: Approximately 180 people
AGENDA:

  1. Chairman Michael Tennant read the prayer and led the pledge of Allegiance.
  2. AZ State Senator JD Mesnard gave the legislative update and took questions at the end.
    • We need to elect republicans to the legislature!
    • ESA’s are being challenged but many more people are choosing this for their children’s educations which shows the necessity of an alternative to public schools
    • He tried to pass election integrity bills but they were all vetoed by the democrat governor.
    • He said Governor Hobbs vetoed a total of 143 bills out of 200 sent for her signature.
    • Also the Elections Procedure Manual (EPM) drafted by Adian Fontes is in lawsuit since the draft gave the SOS more power over elections.
  3. Jeff Weninger spoke briefly about why he is running for a seat as a Representative in the AZ State Legislature. Julie Willoughby is also running. There are 2 seats open and we need to vote for BOTH of them.
  4. Our main speaker was Mike Broomhead. He is on radio station KTAR 92.3FM from 8am-12pm weekdays.

Mike Broomhead moved to KTAR-FM, after hosting with KFYI since 2005. He uses his business and life experience to address the issues challenging Arizona citizens. Rooted in fiscal and social conservatism, he champions the freedoms of Americans and brings the hottest issues to his listeners. His insights focus on the upcoming election year in view of America’s founding principles. Some have never learned about our unique American Heritage and the incredible “Freedom Formula” that our Founders gave their lives to establish that is the bedrock of American Exceptionalism. Broomhead highlights liberties enshrined in our U.S. Constitution that are at risk if voters forget them. Why do so many people in the world want to come to America? What is our American Exceptionalism that no other nation has on earth? Broomhead initially made a name for himself speaking at the largest pro-troop rallies in the country. Mike is a strong believer in giving back to the community and volunteers for the “Best Buddies” program at Marcos de Niza High School; “Project We Remember” that supports military families and “Packages From Home” that is dedicated to US servicemen and women overseas. Prior to his radio career, Mike was a winning bull rider and rodeo announcer! He is the proud father of two daughters and three grandchildren. Broomhead spoke on many topics and took questions at the end as well as stayed after the meeting to meet and greet people:
—He said recent polls show that people on both sides of the isle want election reform to improve the system.
—He said the land grab by President Biden of the land around the Grand Canyon is not so much to protect it as it is to keep anyone from mining it. President Biden wants to call it a “National Monument”, but it actually is a uranium rich area. The US has to buy uranium from Russia because we are not allowed to mine enough of our own. The same goes for copper, we have rich stores of copper but are restricted from mining enough of it. Copper is necessary for the building of A/C’s and
houses require it in their electrical wiring. Solar panels and electric cars require both uranium and copper and other minerals in order to be built. It doesn’t make sense that the government would want the US to buy these minerals from other countries which are not our friends. This lack of access also drives up prices which hurts our citizens who are already in the middle of a demanding inflationary economy.
—Apologetics is “the art of knowing what you believe and why you believe it, and learning how to explain those things to other people to defend your beliefs and in hopes of swaying them to your beliefs”. We need to become “apologists” for conservative policies that can save this country. We need to learn how to argue our issues without emotion and instead with facts in order to convince people that Republicans have a better party platform and better answers to the problems at hand:
the economy, the border, and foreign affairs.
—We need to rein in inflation: It costs the average family $700 more a month to live as of 2 years ago. In just this one past year it is costing them $200 more to live.
  5. There were petitions circulated for various candidates. You can also sign petitions on line by going to this link: https://www.azcleanelections.gov/E-Qual
  6. The 50/50 Raffle winner was Bob Glantz who won $81 and donated $20 back to the SLRC . Thank you Bob!
