The Sun Lakes Republican Club will feature “2025: The State of Our State and Maricopa County”, at its monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 12th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Navajo Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 S. Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes, AZ 85248. The public is invited to hear from our new Maricopa County District One Supervisor Mark Stewart and State Senator J.D. Mesnard. The public is invited. Please bring your friends and neighbors. Our mission is “Education for an Informed Eletorate.”
District 13 State Senator J.D. Mesnard, who has served us so well here in Sun Lakes, will kick off our meeting with his presentation on “A 2025 Legislative Forecast”. Then, Maricopa County Supervisor Mark Stewart will present “Maricopa County: Where We Are and Where We’re Headed…Innovation and Community!” Both speakers will offer a brief analysis of the status quo before the recent election, and then present their vision and ideas of what they hope will be accomplished during the respective new sessions.
Republicans slightly expanded their majorities in both chambers of the General Assembly, now holding a 33-27 edge in the House and 17-13 majority in the Senate. However, under our divided government, Governor Katie Hobbs used her veto pen extensively throughout the past legislative session. The new 2025 Arizona legislative session began on January 13, with the Governor delivering her State of the State address at that time.
State Senator J.D. Mesnard has served Sun Lakes, Chandler, and Gilbert for the past six years. He previously served our district for eight years in the Arizona House of Representatives, serving as Speaker of the House from 2017 to 2019. Mesnard is a member of the Arizona Joint Budget Legislative Committee, the Arizona Joint Legislative Ad Hoc Committee on Freedom of Expression at Arizona’s Public Universities, and the Arizona Joint Legislative Income Tax Credit Review Committee. He also serves as the Chair of the Arizona Senate Finance and Commerce Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Theory and Composition from Arizona State University, a Master’s of Public Administration from DeVry University, and a Master’s of Business Administration.
Our newly elected District One Supervisor Mark Stewart replaced the incumbent Republican Supervisor Jack Sellers. A former Chandler City Council member, Mark Stewart brings a fresh, new perspective to the challenges facing Maricopa County in our current inflationary economy. He is a devoted family man, a dedicated small business owner, and a passionate public servant. Mark’s core belief is that the most effective government operates minimally yet efficiently, staying true to the principles our founding fathers envisioned. At the heart of this vision is a “We the People” approach, where the Constitution is a guide shaping every decision. Mark stands firmly for transparency and rigorous accountability in government.
