When: Wednesday October 9, 2024 6:30pm-8:30pm
Where: Sun Lakes Country Club Phase One, Navajo Room
Who: approximately 180 people
AGENDA:
- Chairman Michael Tennant greeted everyone .
- Linda Gorman led us in the Invocation.
- Chairman Michael Tennant led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
- Chairman Tennant announced that the election flyers were available tonight if people hadn’t gotten theirs in the mail or hadn’t seen the flyer contents on the SLRC emails.
- Many people in the audience had questions about the upcoming election.
- The first speaker, Arizona State Senator, JD Mesnard, answered some of the questions, particularly the ones about propositions 135,137 and 138. He advised everyone to get their ballots mailed back in asap so they can be counted. Waiting until the last minute will make the counting more complicated and election results will take longer. He said there are 3 ways to return your mail in ballots: use a “drop box”, mail through the US Post Office, or take it to a “voting center” . But whichever way, return it as soon as you can.
- The next speaker was Jeff Weninger. He reminded how important it is to vote for BOTH Julie Willoughby and himself on the ballot. VOTE FOR TWO. He brought up the problem that arose last week with the elections department concerning (at least) 218,000 people who registered to vote in AZ between the dates 1994 and 2004 who were never vetted as to whether they were US citizens. This went to the courts and the AZ Supreme Court decided to let all those in that category vote a “full ticket”. He said after this election those who were on the list will be contacted and will need to show some kind of ID to stay registered in AZ. The details have not been worked out yet.
- The “key note speaker” tonight was Mike Broomhead, the talk show host on KTAR 92.3 radio Mondays through Fridays from 8AM to 12 noon. Mike Broomhead moved to KTAR-FM, after hosting with KFYI since 2005. He uses his business and life experience to address the issues challenging Arizona citizens. Rooted in fiscal and social conservatism, he champions the freedoms of Americans and brings the hottest issues to his listeners. He will focused on the 2024 General Election in view of America’s founding principles. Some have never learned about our unique American Heritage and the incredible “Freedom Formula” that our Founders gave their lives to establish. Broomhead initially made a name for himself speaking at the largest pro-troop rallies in the country. Mike is a strong believer in giving back to the community and volunteers for the Best Buddies program at Marcos de Niza High School; “Project We Remember” that supports military families and “Packages From Home” that is dedicated to US servicemen and women overseas. Prior to his radio career, Mike was a winning bull rider and rodeo announcer! He is the proud father of two daughters and three grandchildren. He made it clear that as important as the positions of President and Federal candidates are on the ballot, the races that will have the most impact on us as citizens will be the local races. He encouraged us to make up our minds before going to vote. Then he said to vote EARLY. Then he encouraged us to get others out to vote. And finally he said to consider when voting on the judges that any judges who are removed from office will be replaced by a democrat governor. In the last election democrats targeted and ultimately removed 2 strong, good conservative judges so that Hobbs would be able to replace them with liberal ones. This caught the Republican party by surprise. They don’t want it to happen again. It is important two years from now to get a Republican back as Governor! Until then Hobbs is Governor until 2026.
- There were campaign signs available at the meeting.
- Tickets for the Christmas Dinner Dance were being sold at the meeting.
- Many election items were for sale as well at the meeting, like TRUMP buttons etc.
- The 50/50 Raffle winner won $98.
- The meeting for November will be in the same location on Nov. 13th. The key note speaker will be Constitutional expert Shane Krauser.
